Epic Vampire and Faerie Ramblings

Hello, hello!
I haven't updated in awhile~
My deepest regrets and whatnot--but a fangirl's got a life too, you know, and I've been dead busy.
Of course, I've also been busy reading new books! The first was Blood Promise, by Richelle Mead (part of the Vampire Academy series), and the second was Wings by Aprilynne Pike.
I've been waiting to read Blood Promise ever since I contracted Swine Flu back in AugestorSeptember, and I spent my sick days reading Shadow Kissed and coughing and sneezing until the cows came home. Shadow Kissed was bloody fantastic, but of course it also left me a hallow shell of my formal self. Those who've read it will understand. I had hoped Blood Promise would help the shell--thing, but instead it just gave me bad blood pressure. JESUS, that book was awesome. So many plottwisties I was getting whiplash! BRAVO Richelle Mead, BRAVO. I'll now be eagerly awaiting Spirit Bound, coming in May. Seriously. I will not sleep until this book is in my hands. NO SLEEPING!
Wings was so awesome. The concept was so original and creative I was like "Who thinks of these kinds of things?!" That person would be Aprilynne Pike, who is rapidly becoming a favorite author.
I'm all ready a fan of faerie stories after Holly Black's lovely Modern Faerie Tales. Of course, Wings was a helluva less gothic-punk-wicked than Holly's books, but still good.
It made me wonder: In an Epic Faerie Fight of Awesomness, who would pwn the other (aka, who would it); Tamani (Wings) or Roiben (Tithe, Ironside)? Roiben's totally kick-ass (pardon my language, lol) but I think he'd have a harder time killing than Tamani. Tam's (can I call you Tam..? xD) all neck-snappin' and such, but I think he wouldn't want to kill someone who wasn't, you know. A troll. So, the debate is open! Place your bets!
I can't wait for the sequel, Spells. That's another May release. Than Mockingjay and The Clockwork Angel in August! I know I'm doing this summer...
I also started reading The Oracle Betrayed by Catherine Fisher. I LOVED Incarceron and Sapphique, so I really wanted to read more from her.
So far, it does not disappoint! ^_^
That's all for now, chickadee's. Make sure to check out Wings and Blood Promise!

Top Ten Books

Hello fangirls and fanboys! It's a balmy rainy day, perfect for curling up with your book of choice.
A friend of mine asked for  my top ten books, and since I haven't updated this page in awhile I decided to kill two birds with one sparkly stone and post it here!
Why a sparkly stone...? Because those are the best kind of stones. Especially bird-killing stones.
I just finished "L: change the WorLd" by "M" (otherwise known as Nisio Isin). It was very, very good. As I read it, I realized it wasn't really about me anymore, but about L.
That doesn't make sense...? But I'm not paid to make sense!
(I'm not paid at all...)
Anyway, I'm done drabbling for now. List time!

*MY TOP TEN BOOKS IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER*
1. The Mortal Instruments series, by Cassandra Clare.
2. The Modern Faerie Tale series, by Holly Black
3. Incarceron, by Catherine Fisher
4. Sapphique, also by Catherine Fisher
5. The Farsala Trilogy, by Hilari Bell
6. The Luxe series, by Anna Godbersen
7. The Wicked series (no relation to the Broadway play), by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie
8. The Hunger Games Trilogy, by Suzanne Collins
9. The Percy Jackson Series*, by Rick Riordan
10. Death Note (including all 12 volumes, and the two light novels), by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata (the light novels are by the aforementioned Nisio Isin, or "M")
*this series are a bit for the younger set, but still very entertaining.

Good stuff, ne? Like my fangirl usage of the Japanese "ne" in a completely English sentence? You cannot be a fangirl without the odd Japanese word here or there.
KAWAII! (Which is "cute", for you civilians out there...)

Anyone here love fanfiction? I'm a HUGE fan. Right now I'm reading LOADS of Death Note fanfics (I love both the fluffy and the serious) and some TMI stuff.

Have to go now. Sayoonara!

Fangirl Defined...?

Am I talking too much...?
Scratch that, you can never talk too much! Just like you can never read too much!
I was rather bored yesterday, so I googled "fangirl" to see what definitions there were for the word. For fangirl is a multi-faceted term, something that can't really be defined. Clearly, some people don't understand this. Why try to capture the very essence of something as broad as a "fangirl"? Why? What's the use?
Well, okay. I wouldn't mind normally, but the one from Wikipedia was kind of insulting...?

"The term fangirl can be used to describe a female member of a fandom community (counterpart to the masculine "fanboy"). Fangirls may be more devoted to emotional and romantic aspects of their fandom, especially shipping. However, it is commonly used in a derogatory sense to describe a girl's obsession with something, most commonly a male teen idol or an aspect of Japanese pop culture. Fangirl behavior can vary in intensity. On one end of the scale are those that, while harboring a crush on a particular actor or character, are perfectly capable of understanding that the fulfilment of the crush is never going to happen. On the other end are the girls who are said to be obsessive in their claims on a fictional character, even fighting with other fangirls over who 'owns' the character in question. Fangirl behavior can fall anywhere in this spectrum, but the closer someone is believed to be towards the obsessive end, the more derogatory the use of the term 'fangirl' to describe them is perceived to be. Fangirls of all persuasions are believed to be the largest contributors to fanfiction websites, sometimes disregarding the canon storyline of their fandom or altering it to fit either their own favored romantic pairings; or themselves into the continuity (termed self-insertions or Mary Sues)."
(Quoted from the Wikipedia article "Fan (person)")

I'm both flattered and insulted.
They make us (as in all fangirls) sound like overly obsessed maniacs! And, okay, maybe we are, but to say it so blatantly! Although I did enjoy the part about fighting other fangirls over "who 'owns' the character". Not...that I've ever done...this or anything *nervous cough*. Moving on!
Moving on to the fanfiction part of the article! Haha, I don't enjoy altering the storyline in fanfictions, but if it's good enough I still might read it. AND WHO ELSE DESPISES THE MARY SUE CLASSIFICATION??? I got bored of it when I was a Twilighter, and kept hearing it repeated over and over by Skeps, but now I just hate it.
I've been inspired to whip up my own fangirl definition! Woot! (pwn...)

Fangirl (Noun, Verb):
--(n) The name for a female who is obsessed with a certain person or thing. Examples may include and "L fangirl" or a "Incarceron fangirl". Usually defined as someone avidly interested in things, and one who is prone to phases.
--(v) The act of "fangirling", being avid and squeeing about something. To "fangirl" is to rave about someone/something in a positive, obsessed way.

I realize I said earlier that fangirl shouldn't be defined...oh well...Contradicting oneself is a part of life, no?
Now time to go read something...

Review for The Mortal Instruments, by Cassandra Clare

Hello again, dear readers and dearest fanatics,
My first review(s)! I believe this deserves a woot.
Woot!
I love that word. Almost as much as I love "pwn". Gamer speech made public, my friends! Can't beat it, can't understand it.
Well, there's your random ramble for the day. I'll start making sense now.

(Spoiler Warning Level: MILD)
The Mortal Instruments:
City of Bones, by Cassandra Clare
A demon, a nightclub filled with half-human mythical creatures, and a mysterious, beautiful boy. Does this sound good all ready? Well, it's the content of the first chapter. From that point on, it gets better. The story is rich in heart-pounding action, vividly crafted characters, and a world to challenge our reality. The book is part dark fantasy, part tragic love story--and it will keep you breathless from the first word to the last. 5/5
City of Ashes, by Cassandra Clare
This book starts right where City of Bones left off. You're sucked into the story immediately, and withdrawing yourself is nigh impossible. The romance, the adventures, the characters, and the breathtaking-story telling all intensify in this stunning sequel. And the cliff hanger? Absolutely excruciating. 5/5
City of Glass, by Cassandra Clare
The story comes to head in this thrilling finale--as the star-crossed love, the lies and the hidden truth, the angels and the demons all collide in the Shadowhunter's home, Idris. You'll find yourself on the edge as the story progresses through a series of highs and lows. Death and life. Love and hate. Savior and betrayal. A war is upon our favorite characters, and the odds are stacked in the favor of Hell. 5/5

Seriously, if you haven't read these books--DO SO NOW. The prequel's (The Infernal Devices, set a hundred odd years before TMI) first book comes out this August (I feel I've mentioned this before...) so if you want to start there, be my guest. I can't wait to read these, because I'm a total Magnus fangirl and I can't wait to read more about him. Not so much looking forward to MagnusxCammille, though. Weshallsee....
Also, there's a fourth book in the TMI series coming out next September! City of Fallen Angels. I swear to God, I'm living on an hour-to-hour basis for this book.
Fangirl, remember. Fangirl.
Here's a link to Cassandra Clare's official website for more information and some awesomesauce: http://cassandraclare.com/cms/home
I went to a book signing event put on by her (Cassandra Clare) and Holly Black (author of the YA series, A Modern Faerie Tale). It was so wicked. Totally relaxed and fun atmosphere (we started off by Holly asking Cassandra who'd she'd Marry, Kiss, or Push Of a Cliff, Sebastion, Valentine, and the Inquistor. Dear readers, this is how to spend an afternoon) and I got all my books signed *fangirl squee*! Cassandra and Holly were also great. Calling them "down to earth" is too cliched, but, you know. The thought is there.
So go the the events whenever you get the chance!!!!
That's all for this post, dear readers.

A Short Preamble Ramble

Hello, and welcome!
This blog was created because I find there are not nearly enough places to ramble in a semi-psychotic way about books. Does anyone else find a lack of this? I can pretty much talk about books 24/7, but after the first few hours of fangirl squeeing, people are oft prone to get a glazed look in their eyes and stop paying attention.
Case in point, dear readers. Case in point.
I'll be reviewing books predominately, but I'll also be talking about anime and manga (a fangirl is nothing without a few anime references in her back pocket). I'm always reading new books--always, always, always--so I'll have plenty to talk about. I hope to inspire some people to read a few amazing books, warn them of books I didn't care for, and hopefully find out about new stories myself!
Right now I eagerly awaiting a few new books. The Clockwork Angel, by Cassandra Clare, and Mockinjay, by Suzanne Collins, are both coming out in August. As of now I'm having a "Wake me Up When September August Ends" moment, except I'd rather wake up in the beginning of August, but, you know. If you change the song reference too much, it's not funny anymore. Anyway, desperately waiting to read these two. AGH!
The Mortal Instruments, by the aforementioned Cassandra Clare, is currently one of my top favorite books. I'll be reviewing each of them (City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass) later, because I'm on a mission to get everyone reading this amazing stories.
Speaking of top favorite books, I've decided to write up a quick "Top Six" list. Enjoy!

(MY CURRENT TOP 6 BOOKS)
(Reviews to follow in other posts)
(In No Particular Order)
1. Incarceron, by Catherine Fisher.
2. The Mortal Instrument Series, by Cassandra Clare
3. The Hunger Games (This includes Catching Fire), by Suzanne Collins

Hooray for lists!
That's all for now (I have to stop talking at some time, right...? Right...?)! Keep checking back for book reviews, and a fangirl's assorted ravings!
